They are wild animals after all and should not be petted. In Cabo San Lucas they offer to have you swim with sea lions! I did not even get off the boat. So dangerous. You are right. Dolphins should be able to swim free. The best time to see dolphins is when they swim alongside your boat. Nothing better than that!

Comment on How to Snorkel with Sea Turtles in Akumal, Mexico by Simon M https://traveladdicts.net/akumal-snorkeling-sea-turtles/comment-page-2/#comment-147551 Sat, 02 Dec 2023 03:30:47 +0000 https://traveladdicts.net/?p=7795#comment-147551 Update 1st Dec 2023 – feel free to use any of this in your article if helpful since we found it incredibly useful… We went to Akumal today to see the turtles, worth noting we took our own snorkels/masks so had no intentions of paying for a guide. We took a Colectivo from Tulum that dropped us just before 9am. We walked towards the beach and numerous ‘guides’ shouted at us but we ignored them and continued on – you can’t miss it, especially as several tour groups were already kitted up heading that way. Under the big white arch to the kiosk where we paid 120p each plus 100p deposit for a locker key – all services like changing rooms, toilets, showers were open. We headed for the beach and one particular guide made it very clear the small area we were allowed to use; no issues with that. We explored that area for a while but quickly realised it was fruitless – zero visibility and people everywhere (it was a windy day so I doubt anyone had a great time). Stopped for a drink/sunbathe. Then I decided I’d had enough – I walked about 100m down the beach past one of the private hotels, to roughly the crooked palm tree with the ‘leave me alone’ sign and headed in there, well away from the official zone. I went about 50m out and there is another row of buoys – I traversed this and honestly saw several turtles, shoals of big fish, the visibility was far better and hardly anyone else around to ruin it. So I would 100% recommend trying this! Went home very happy with some great photos.

When you submit your initial request, you tell them the number of different days you try for. At that point, you can “Add alternate permit holder (3 max).” If you do add alternate permit holders, you need to provide a valid email address for each of them. If you list someone as an alternate permit holder, they are prohibited from submitting their own requests for the same time period.

I flew from a small airport to Dallas to catch a connecting flight to Midland, Texas. The small plane could not take my traveling bag so it had to be loaded as cargo. It turns out my bag was not loaded at all.

I’ve put in a request at the airport in Midland. But this is just sad.

Highly recommend! I would add to take a look up when you get to Westminster station, Big Ben is right there! I took your advice and ended off the day with high tea at the Soho hotel! From another guide I found it to be one of the most affordable and is a 40 minute ride on the underground to the airport!

That’s possible. However, only validated sales can review on Booking vs the anybody of TripAdvisor. So, while the data can be slightly skewed on Booking by deleting some negative reviews. However, compared to the tens of millions of fake reviews on TripAdvisor, it is a better system.

Short answer is yes. Longer answer is that many resorts and scuba dive shops offer an expedited “resort course” that will allow you to dive, however, if you ever want to dive again, you’ll need to re-do the course again. A resort course will give you the fundamentals and you’ll usually need to do some kind of pool or shallow ocean “check out” go make sure you are comfortable and won’t panic.

There’s also a gin distillery, the Álfaborg mountain (Elf mountain) and a very well maintained typical old Icelandic house with the green roof that you can visit. (Lindarbakki)

Also, the captive dolphin information warms my heart. I’ve been criticized for years for my very firm belief against dolphins in captivity. You can go to Florida and get on a sea coo and interact without disturbing or ruining the life of these beautiful, FAMILY focused creatures. While it’s still dangerous, it’s the most respectful way to get up close with them.
Thanks again for the helpful info!!

I’m not sure if I’m understanding your exact schedule and constraints, so I’ll say this…The Flam Railway and fjords are the most remarkable parts to see. I assume you’ll have light for ~45-60 minutes after the stated sunset time. So, while the cruise timing may not be perfect, you will see the fjords. If traveling from Gudvangen to Bergen in darkness means you would have time in Bergen the following day, I would suggest doing that.

I will be doing the Oslo to Bergen DIY with limited time beginning Nov 7th. The sunset looks to be about 16:15 that day which would be approx half way thru the boat portion of the trip and the rest of the trip to Bergen would be in darkness. If I follow your suggestion and spend the afternoon/night in Flam and finish the trip the next day in daylight I am not leaving myself any time in Bergen. I know I am short changing myself on both ends – any recommendations on this dilemma?

For hotels, look at sites that have reviews from ACTUAL travelers (such as Booking(dot)com). If you stay, you can leave a review, but only if you stay. For restaurants, Yelp is still OK, but look to sites like OpenTable and the Fork. Frankly, we look to other travel blogs and sites for actual expert opinion.

The beauty is the market. Nuremberg, like most cities in Europe, doesn’t “decorate” much beyond the markets. An alternative: Regensburg’s market opens earlier.

I am not on vacation. I am in Manchester to settle my son who will be beginning a new phase of his life in the Univ of Mamchester.
3 of our 4 suitcases are lost. One contained my stuff, the other two his stuff- things which were expensive, things which cannot be bought from anywhere anymore and things which have extremely high emotional value.
BA never got back to us. In this 4 days i have already heard the following things:
1. My suitcases are not located.
2. My suitcases are in Delhi.
3. One of my suitcases is in Manchester.
4. All my suitcases are in Heathrow.
5. Please be patient.
6. You have to wait for 24-48 hours.

In a foreign land with no belongings, no assurance, no apologies, no concrete information- i have no idea what to do. I am spending my hard earned money to buy everything all over again.. and i am wasting all my time panicking and making calls and buying stuff.
The pleasure of seeing my son walking the famed halls of the university is all but gone.

So other than sanity, money and time, i have lost a valuable experience of seeing my son smiling and walking in through the university entrance, all thanks to the useless people entering into the business of airways. My suitcases were not flying for free is all i know. And money, even if they compensate, cannot buy everything that one possess is the other thing which i know.

The most ridiculous part in the entire 4 day fiasco is that every single day when i call the helpline they ask me certain personal information to validate who i claim myself to be ensuring “data protection”; the truth being they cant even “protect”my belongings for sure.
I am swinging somewhere between the second and third stage of grieving now.

Maybe i will move over all this 200 years down the line, but not today or tomorrow or in near future.
Linkedin profile of Mr Sean Doyle says ” I am proud to be the chairman and Ceo of British Airways”. Thats a big slap on my face as of this moment.

@Brian C, My family (me, husband, two boys (9 & 12 at the time) stayed at Hillside Lodge in approx 1999. We had a ball! Lots to do, meals at the restaurant were included, nightly and day activities by the owners. What fun! I don’t see how any family with younger kids could not enjoy that. Teens…maybe not. Ha.

There’s a bunch of hotels north of Heathrow on Bath Road. We’ve stayed at the Sofitel, the Sheraton Heathrow, and the Renaissance as well.

I didn’t do a tour. I explored on my own as a solo traveler. It’s possible to do it alone.

Is it safe to book a hotel near the airport after our day of sightseeing? Any recommendations?
